Following on from the very successful sponsored “hair dye and head shave” event that he did in the summer, local singer and entertainer Simon Barter is about to embark on an even more ambitious event by cycling all around the island of Cyprus on his mountain bike to raise money for the Pan Cyprian Kidney Patients Association (Famagusta and Larnaca Branch)
The event starts on or around March 1st 2010 at Kato Pyrgos in the North West of the Island and will travel through Pomos, Polis, Coral Bay, Paphos, Pissouri, Episkopi, Limassol, Larnaca, Agia Napa, Protaras, Paralimni, Freneros and finish at the Agios Nichalos Base entrance in Vrysoulles. As if that wasn’t enough, at every overnight stop he will be performing at a venue to raise more money and awareness for the charity.
The Pan Cyprian Kidney Patients Association raises money to offer practical, moral and financial support to Kidney Dialysis Patients. It makes no distinction between race ethnicity or gender and also liaises to ensure that patients who require dialysis whilst on holiday are catered for. It is staffed entirely by volunteers who give up their time freely and the only expense that the charity has is for advertising and printing for fund raising events. Kidney disease is generally rising in line with world trends, however, it is reported that within the Eastern Cyprus areas it is rising much faster than the average
Simon says that the support that he has received already is phenomenal with offers of assistance from many different sources all over the island and is busy working on all of the logistical and marketing sides of the project to raise as much money as possible, as well as putting the miles in during regular training rides.
The event will be covered on line at www.look4usincyprus.com and by clicking on to the dedicated portal ARC (All Round Cyprus) viewers will be able to see all of the following.
- Information leading up to the event, including daily routes, overnight stops and evening entertainment venues.
- Details of the Charity with aims and objectives with pictures and editorial.
- How to make a donation
- News, reviews and up to the date photographs as the ride progresses.
- Advertising links to sponsors websites
Simon says that the “look4usincyprus” team were already working flat out on the project creating the portal, the artwork and the day to day running of the site as well as helping to produce all of the artwork for the sponsor’s booklet which he hopes to publish for the event.” To see such support from local businesses when we are in a general recession at the moment is really refreshing and they cannot be thanked enough for all that they are doing as the main sponsors of the event” said Simon
There will also be regular daily updates on Radio Napa and other stations including BFBS to keep the public updated on progress. Simon also wants people to come and join him on his route to do a few miles, or many miles, to come and support him en route and to raise money themselves for the Charity as he will be on the road for 7 days continuously.
If you would like to sponsor the event in any way then Simon can be contacted on 96529690 or arc@look4us.com or by clicking on the relevant link on the website www.look4usincyprus.com .
People may not think that they can help in any way except by giving money but at present they particularly require bike spares, fuel for two support vehicles, high energy drinks, people to carry out bucket collections at various stop off points, food etc. the list is endless so if you know anyone who may be able to help in the planning then please contact Simon on any of the above |
