The Pan Cyprian Kidney Patients Association raises money to offer practical, moral and financial support to Kidney Dialysis Patients. It makes no distinction between race ethnicity or gender and also liaises to ensure that patients who require dialysis whilst on holiday are catered for.
All of the personnel who work for the charity do so on a purely voluntary basis and all of the money that is raised goes for the assistance of those kidney patients in need and funds are used for the following;
  • Printing and advertising the Charity to create awareness and to enable them to raise the funds required to support the patients requirements.
  • Transport to and from the dialysis units of the Larnaca and Paralimni Hospitals. (During school term time if the passengers live on a school bus route they are allowed to use the bus out of term time, or if they cannot get to the school bus pick up point, they have no other means of getting there) so service taxis are used to take them from outlying areas to and from the Hospitals.
  • The supply of equipment to the Larnaca and Paralimni Hospitals Kidney Dialysis Wards in conjunction with the needs of the Hospital. These include in the past such items as dialysis machines, specialised pumps, recovery and treatment chairs, televisions, headsets and curtains for the rest room.
  • Support for people on holiday who are in need of dialysis and ensuring that there are sufficient spaces for them in the units.
  • Approximately 1000 people a year are helped by the Association including children and adults of all nationalities and ethnicities. There has been a marked incresase in the incidence of dialysis patients within Cyprus as a whole and in the Agia Napa, Protaras, Paralimni areas it has risen much faster than the National Average.
  • Financial support is provided to provide for those patients who are too ill to work (as is often the case as the treatment is very debilitating) and who have no other family available to support them. It is often difficult for sufferers to hold down full time employment due to the extensive scope of their treatment.
